Grief and Me

Heart Heart

Hey there!!
I’ve been thinking about all of you this past weekend and how each of us has a different story, yet we share the same outcome: we are widows.

I was reminded of the movie Peter Pan with Robin Williams, especially the moment when they honor Wendy as an older woman who started her orphanage. Peter says, “We all come from different backgrounds, and yet we all have something in common. We are orphans.”
“We are widows”
That line struck me. There is something about community that brings comfort—especially when we know the women in this group aren’t here to fix each other, but to simply be with one another.

One of our widow friends in this group sent me a beautiful video titled, The Rest of Your Life is Too Big for You.

That really hit home. Trying to figure out the rest of your life now feels overwhelming. And as the speaker said, even if he were still here, trying to figure out the rest of your life would still feel overwhelming.

We are given today.

We aren’t promised tomorrow, so for today, my prayer for myself and for you is that we allow ourselves the time and space we need to mend our broken hearts.
I’ve adopted a new approach for myself: I’m not seeking anything right now. I’m simply allowing myself to receive.

I’m choosing to be open to whatever God has for me—without striving or pushing. I’m doing what I enjoy, and I’m letting go of anything that no longer feels aligned with who I am.

I also loved what the speaker said: “You don’t have to decide what you want for the rest of your life.” Instead, ask: “Is there anything I might be interested in today?”

Today is what we have. So let yourself off the hook from having to figure it all out.

That pressure brings exhaustion, fear, and doubt. But when we take today slowly and get curious about what catches our attention, we begin to see that we aren’t doing nothing….we’re choosing.

I hope this brings a little light to your day, as it did to mine.
